To help students master the facts, you may use Fact
Triangles. These triangular cards have three numbers on each corner, an
asterisk, or solid dot in the corner, which contains the sum or product,
and the operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) in
the center. |

HOW
TO USE FACT TRIANGLES:
The
three numbers used in a fact are located on the corners of a fact
triangle. The sum of two numbers can be found on the
card under a solid dot ( ).The product of two numbers can be found on
the card under the asterisk (*). Cover one of the corners
of the triangle and ask your child to use the appropriate operation to
come up with the number you are concealing. When the operation is
subtraction or division, one of the numbers other than the number
under the asterisk/dot should be hidden. Addition and multiplication facts
may be practiced by covering the sum or the product, but may also be
practiced by covering one of the other facts in the number sentence. For
example, in the illustration above you would say to your child:
"7 - 3 = ____ or 3 + ____ = 7"
Fact triangles help
students learn fact families rather than isolated facts. Children see
the relationship between addition/subtraction and
multiplication/division facts, providing a more effective devise for
mastering the facts than regular flash cards.
