Intervention/Tiered Systems of Support

In the Freehold Township School District, we celebrate student achievement and growth throughout the school year. We use a variety of assessment tools to measure student progress against the New Jersey State Learning Standards (NJSLS). Administrators and teachers work collaboratively to pinpoint strengths and set goals for individual students using the assessment data. To ensure action is taken in response to students performing below grade-level, the Freehold Township School District has established a tiered system of supports. These supports align with the guidelines set forth by New Jersey’s Tiered System of Supports (NJTSS).

Freehold Township School District’s Tiered Supports Model:

Tier 1: Tier 1 supports are provided to all students. Tier 1 includes core instruction that is aligned with standards and differentiated based upon data. Students that perform below benchmark, despite these supports, will move on to receive Tier 2 support.

Tier 2: Tier 1 supports continue. In addition, the interventionist and the classroom teacher collaborate to plan, implement, and progress monitor a Tier 2 intervention. A Tier 2 intervention targets a specific standard and addresses the progress indicator of the grade level in which the student is currently performing. The intervention occurs 3-4 times per week in a 6 day cycle for 6-8 weeks. The goal of a Tier 2 intervention is for students to master the grade level standard and funnel back to Tier 1 or continue Tier 2 support to address another area of need. If sufficient progress is not made, the student will move on to receive Tier 3 support.

Tier 3: Tier 1 & 2 supports continue. Tier 3 supports involve the collaborative effort of the school based intervention team. The team will review the Tier 1 and Tier 2 data to determine next steps for the student. The interventionist will be responsible for implementation of the Tier 3 intervention. The intervention will occur 5 days per week in a 6 day cycle for 6-8 weeks. The goal of Tier 3 intervention is for students to master the grade level standard and funnel back to Tier 2 or continue Tier 3 support to address another area of need. If sufficient progress is not made, the school based intervention team may decide to request assistance from the child study team.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding intervention support for your child, please contact your child’s teacher and/or interventionist as a first step.
